Maps tuna was first registered for long line tuna fishing in Papua New Guinea in 1997 with one steel fishing vessel. Since then Maps has expanded in accordance with its business plan. The company currently runs a total of five fishing vessels. Maps currently employs about 100 employees including two expatriate managers.

MAPS TUNA is situated at Voco Point in Lae in the Morobe Province Papua New Giunea.It has its own wharf with the factory situated 20m from the docking area.
The factory is a modern facility and is HACCP accredited, registered with FDA and has EU accreditation.

The fishing grounds are the Solomon Sea and the Bismark Sea.
The product is sent via air on a weekly basis to fresh markets in Japan and Australia.

All vessels are fiberglass and are purpose built for the tropics




All vessels operates American style drum system and uses : 1200 hooks per shot
The product is unloaded every five days to ensure freshness.
Onboard stowing system is chilled (-1 to 0 C) seawater.
The onboard processing is in accordance with the Japanese method for the sashimi market.
The target species are Yellowfin,Bigeye and Swordfish.
All vessels do not use wire trace on the hooks, this is to minimize incidental shark catch.
The fleet operates strictly to MARPOL rules and is HACCP accredited.

 

The company is constantly up-grading its products to keep in line with world seafood trends.
Fresh tuna loins are cryovaced from A grade fish and exported weekly.
Frozen loins are done in the same method and shipped via sea container.
Saku cuts and steaks are also packaged on customer request.
Fish sausage and fish patties are also being developed at present.
